PAVELA

Greetings from Peru!
Just kidding, there is no way I am at Peru right now. I just got back from my European trip which was awesome and you can find the story hereAnyway here now I am gonna share my experience with Pavela. The first authentic Peruvian dishes in Indonesia. Yes, that Peru in South America. Maybe some of you guys do wonder what Peruvian dishes looks like because honestly I do not familiar with me as well. South American food kinda remind me with those bold and tangy spices, but I had no idea with this one. So let's digging in!

So Pavela is located in Pondok Indah Mal 3 street gallery, the corner with lotsa cafes and restaurants reside. It was not spacious, but homey enough to make you enjoy their Peruvian dishes.

The owner kindly explained that Peruvian dishes mostly are consisted with 'heavy' food. You can find carbohydrate in most of their menus, either it is rice or cassava. Both of them are carbohydrate complex that can be your source of energy. The highlight of the dish is the explosion when you give it a bite. The flavor of spice can be a surprise with its sour/sweet/hot flavors. Yes I become more curious about it!

PISCO SOUR-45k
Peruvian national drink. I can taste cinnamon, egg white, and lime in it. Fresh!

YUCCA FRITAS-40k
Actually it is a fried cassava. The interesting twist they have here is serving them with Aji Verde. A special green sauce that have this surprise: sour, salty, and a bit spicy. Me likey!

CAUSA CANGREJO-45k
Potato based terrine, topped with crabstick and sweet corn, enhanced with Peruvian mayonnaise and Rocoto sauce.

NIKKEI CHICKEN-80k
This is my favorite so far! Chicken fillet with Nikkei sauce, deep fried, then topped with tartar sauce. Chicken is really tender and well seasoned and the tartar sauce make it better. Anyway they use cilantro butter rice in every dishes. The fragrant may be quite strong but is it yummy and not overwhelming. It is truly a comfort food which suit you who do not want something challenging, and yes, it is tasty!

JALEA-95k
Peruvian fish and chips with Aji Verde sauce and fried cassava. It's a good one. Fish is not oily, portion is generous, well seasoned too. I can't give any complain to this one.

POLLO SALTADO-85k
Cilantro butter rice accompanied with chicken breast fillet, which is stirred with cassava, tomato, and their special Saltado sauce. The tomato flavor is quite dominating, with a twist of sweet taste, but in a good way! This one come in generous portion, too. A fulfilling dish indeed.

POLLO A LA BRASA-95k
Cilantro butter rice, roasted chicken thigh, salad, and fried cassava. Everything is tender and well seasoned. The flavor of the skin is stronger than the inner part tho. This one may seems humble, but its simplicity somehow deliver the heartwarming dishes.

CHICARRON DE POLO-80k
Another chicken dishes with Peruvian style. Crispy fried chicken breast with salsa, their special sauce on top and served with cilantro butter rice. Somehow this one is quite similar with Nikkei chicken, only without the tartar sauce.

BANANA POPSICLE-40k
BESO DE MOZA-45k

It's not a feast without dessert! Simple frozen banana popsicle with chocolate peanut skin is something easy that can make you happy. This beso de moza, which is actually a chocolate cake with mashmallow, peanut, and ice cream may suit you chocolate-sucker and sweet tooth because it's sweet and dense as well. Such a good ending to my festive!

Overall Pavela is beyond my expectation. Having Peruvian dishes is surely something new for me and I am happy I have it in the right place. Everything is tasty, pleasing, and fulfilling. Best of luck for you!

BERRYWELL

Healthy lifestyle is one big commitment in life because there are quite much sacrifice about it. Turning habits into do sports, eat in better qualities, and get enough sleep are some keys to achieve a healthier lifestyle. Happy to see that Jakarta's F and B are contributing much by serving its healthy lifestyle menus to us: SMOOTHIE BOWL. Berrywell is one of them.

Berrywell is located in Fairgrounds SCBD. The shop itself is quite secluded, resides in the basement area. It was not too spacious, packed with around 10 tables only. I guess this place is not meant to be a long chit chat corner. I saw that mostly people just came to grab a healthy quick lunch.

Although it was not spacious, it delivers its own homey ambiance.

Healthy stuff in the making. They have 2 servings on each smoothie bowl, come in regular and large size. The regular one is actually such a perfect size for me because I feel like I could taste everything in right amount, you know, the ration between the smoothie itself and the toppings. Good thing, they already counted the calories inside!

PB AND B-regular 35k-159 calories/large 59k-367 calories

This one honestly was my favorite here. Pb and b contained banana, peanut butter, and multigrain milk. The peanut butter was not overwhelming and really contribute to the creamy texture to it. Those toppings really enhanced the peanut butter mix. Love it!

BERRYWELL SIGNATURE- 44k-153calories/60k-300 calories

This one was their recommendation. Acai, banana, raspberry, strawberry, and coconut water to made its pretty color and yummy smoothie base. It was a feast of sweet and sour, in a good way. It was a good satisfying bowl indeed!

LEMON CHIA SEED-40k

This cake really was beyond my expectation, to be honest. It was moist and sticky, dominated with fragrant lemon taste, and not overwhelmingly sweet. I kept digging to the last bite! They did not count the calories for the cake, too! I wonder how much calories in it tho.

I really satisfied with my smoothie bowl at Berrywell. I found the 2 size of servings was really thoughtful. Unfortunately the service was kinda slow when I was there because they missed my orders and skipped me after 3 people. Well, might be my bad luck.

WALKING DRUMS JAKARTA

Talking about comfortable coffee shop in South Jakarta area, Walking Drums is one not to be missed. Its open space outside could really make you feel like having coffee overseas, of course when Jakarta is on good mood (weather, I mean). The natural light was pretty, dark wooden exterior was lovely,a and people were friendly. The place itself was not spacious and it was quite packed while I was there in random hour in weekdays. Even they're having a photoshoot session while I was there. No wonder, the natural light made it effortless.

AMERICANO-32k
COFFEE LATTE-35k

I am not a coffee expert, I just enjoy coffee. Surely I had some favorite places to grab a coffee, and while new coffee shops were popping out here and there, somehow I always keep my expectation high. Their coffee latte was just okay, it was quite watery, while the flavor was actually alright. The americano was good, right flavor and consistency.

Good thing here, they have some main courses and snacks menu. Trust me it was one important factor to make you sit longer in a coffee shop.

SINGAPOREAN SALTED EGG CHICKEN WING-45k

Chicken wing with salted egg sauce? Well that's new to me! 4 pieces of tender chicken wings, flavorful sauce, and spicy as well. It was something that gonna make you lick your hand after eating this. However, some of you might find it too spicy! For me it was delicious, yum!

AGLIO OLIO-45k
Honestly I did not expect much for the pasta, but my friend was really hungry and finally we ordered this one. The flavor turned out yummy! Seasoning was on point and the texture of the pasta was good. They served it with chicken breast on top, which was uncommon for me, but still it was delicious and tender.

NASI GORENG IJO-45k
Fried rice is one basic menu in every restaurant, and serving a good one is a must! Their nasi goreng ijo/green fried rice was surely one comfortable dish enhanced with salted fish, fried egg and shrimp cracker. Might be humble, but it was yummy and fulfilling!

HAWAIIAN STYLE PAO SANDWICH-65k

I did put my expectation here because they said it was one of their favorites. They were using white pao for the bread which was quite hard after I left it for a while. The cheese, beef patty, and pineapple made it better and were a good match one to another. It was not my favorite here, tho.

QUATRO FORMAGGI-65k
THIS IS MY FAVORITE HERE! Tasty and crispy thin pizza with lotsa cheese on top! Mozzarella, parmesan, gorgonzola, ementhal cheese, you said it, it were there. I found that it looked like they were using something like thin biscuit for the pizza dough brilliantly. Turned out it was scrumptious!

Walking Drums could really be your choice to chill around when you are in the neighborhood. Coffee was ordinary, to be honest, but they have these things to enhance their existence: comfortable place and tasty food. Happy to be here, Walking Drums!

LUCKY CAT COFFEE AND KITCHEN

Hello from Lucky Cat Coffee and Kitchen!

Talking about pretty coffee shop and decent taste of coffee, Lucky Cat Coffee and Kitchen is something you can not miss. If you ever heard about Sajiva Coffee and Ceramics (click here for review about Sajiva), Lucky Cat seems like another creation of their sisterhood. Something similar was detected between them: the pretty atmosphere, the decoration, the wood, the warmth of a coffee shop.

Lucky Cat Coffee and Kitchen is located in Pasar Festival area, near Bakrie University in Epicentrum. Location-wise, it was strategic. Sitting beautifully in busy area of Kuningan, Lucky Cat can be your coffee destination 24/7. (Yes, they are open 24/7! No more worries for your caffeine fix!) Lucky Cat is so pretty with its white wooden house that remind me with houses in suburban area overseas. The place is quite spacious, but being there on weekend with every other curious people made me quite hard to find a good corner to chill around. Yes it was so crowded!

Pretty floor. I just loved how they pay attention to details.

ICED LATTE - 40k
HONEYDEW JUICE - 35k

They have these 2 kind of beans, Once you ordered coffee they are gonna asked you if you wanted the bold and the mild one. I chose the mild one and it was alright. I knew that actually I could not know the consistency of iced coffee but I was not in the mood for a hot cup.

If you are not a big fan of coffee, they have this quite a wide selections for tea and juices. They also have this 'mild kind' of coffee which is actually a flavored latte with nutella etc. For you who want to satisfy your hunger, they also serve some main courses.

DEEP FRIED CALAMARI - 45k

Overall Lucky Cat is one pretty coffee shop with comfy ambiance and quite good coffee. Honestly the coffee was not the best that I ever had, but it was still enjoyable. The pretty building, however, was really something. Lucky Cat can be your another choice for you caffeine fix. Ps: do not forget to take a picture with its beautiful building, so lovely!

OJJU KOREAN RESTAURANT KOTA KASABLANKA

Here comes the post about one of the latest restaurant in Jakarta: OJJU KOREAN RESTAURANT!

I did see the post about Ojju from my fellow blogger and somehow it was so tempting with its melted cheese on the hotplate. Another friend of mine also told me about this quite popular Korean restaurant in Korea which was serving this kind of Korean food, and it was great they said. So I decided to try Ojju at Kota Kasablanka Mal.

Ojju is located in upperground level at Kota Kasablanka, resides at that food area. Place-wise, it was not so spacious, fit for around 50 people I guess. Anyway, reservation is recommended because it was quite packed when I was there. I did make a reservation but still have to wait for 45 minutes. While waiting the live show cooking at each table was entertaining and such a pleasure to be watched!

BUDAE JIGAE
BEEF 169k/CHICKEN 149k/SEAFOOD 229k/VEGETABLES 119k

Set of budae jigae. Korean soup with choices of beef/ chicen/ seafood/ vegetables. I added korean ramen (22k) to enhance the soup. Kimchi was not too strong in my opinion and the color was a bit pale. My recommendation was adding the cheese too! The cheese somehow made the soup became thicker and more enjoyable. It was an enjoyable budae jigae tho!

\

Korean ramen+cheese+warm soup: perfect ;)

ROLLING CHEESE WITH RIBS - 219k

The live cooking of the cheese, rolling it to the ribs was quite an entertainment to the eye. Portion of cheese was generous with 4 big chunks of beef ribs. The rib was quite flavorful at the outer side, but I found it was a bit bland in the middle site. Texture was tender, too. The cheese, in my honest opinion, was quite bland, I really hope it was more salty to enhance the flavor on the hot plate. Anyway they have 3 level of spiciness and the mild one was quite spicy already.

ROLLING CHEESE WITH CHICKEN WING - 99k

They had the same presentation with the previous one. I actually prefer this one rather than the ribs one. Chicken was tender and quite flavorful and the cheese (although it was bland) made it more tasty! It might be a bit subjective because I personally liked chicken better than beef. They also served it with potato wedges which was crunchy and well-seasoned.

FRIED RICE-29k

So when you order for Kimchi fried rice, the rice would be cooked on the top of hotplate rig after they cooked the rolling cheese for you. Kimchi sauce was a bit mild. I hope they can make a stronger flavor for the kimchi. Fried rice was not bad, but I thought a little bit of salt and soy sauce would be nice (I found it bland, too!).

JAPCHAE-69k

SEAFOOD PAJEON-49k

Japchae was actually quite nice but I really surprised with its small size comparing with the price. Pajeon was not the best I've ever had, a bit bland and I felt like the flour taste was quite dominating.

Overall it was quite a good dinner for me. From all that I tried, I recommended the rolling cheese with chicken wings because it was my favorite here. Although the ribs was not bad too. For cheese lover, trying this one is a must!
